2023 Welcome Week

Community/Job Fair

The Town of New Tecumseth in partnership with the County of Simcoe, Focus Employment Services and the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board will be hosting a Welcome Week Community/Job Fair on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (7300 Industrial Parkway, Alliston).  Open to all residents to attend.

Welcome Week is an annual campaign and celebration to showcase the movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all, including immigrants. Simcoe County’s Welcome Week will be an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people, places and values that ensure everyone feels welcome and belongs in their local community, no matter where they come from.

 

The purpose of the community/job fair is to provide:

 

  1. Newcomers to Canada with information about services and supports available to them within the community. Such services/support could be health services, financial and insurance supports, community support agencies, and entertainment/recreational opportunities. The Town of New Tecumseth has seen a 73.7% increase in the number of immigrants living in the Town between 2016 and 2021. The 2021 Census showed that 8,400 residents or 19.1% of the Town’s population indicated they were born outside of Canada.
  2. The 2021 Census showed that 55.4% of New Tecumseth residents commute over 30 minutes to work daily. To help encourage commuters to work in the community they live in and provide newcomers with information about the local job opportunities, a job fair will take place with the community fair. Businesses are encouraged to attend and promote their opportunities to all residents of the Town.

Those wishing to participate in the community fair, job fair or both, will be provided with:

  • one 6’ or 8’ table
  • Chairs
  • Electrical outlet (limited and based on first come basis)
  • Supper (delivered to your booth space and available only to those registered to your booth)

Due to the popularity of this event, space may be limited, and we ask that booth attendees keep their display areas to a minimum size. If you require extra space for a display, please advise staff in the registration form.

Organizations and employers wishing to participate in the Community/Job Fair will be required to provide a Certificate of Insurance naming the Town of New Tecumseth and the County of Simcoe has additional insurers.  A minimum general liability of $2 million will be required to be shown on the Certificate of Insurance.  If your organization does not have insurance, liability insurance can be purchased through the Town of New Tecumseth’s Parks and Recreation Department.  On the form, under “Questions” please advise if you will require this service.
